ripples on my cactus, is it sick?

Post by rich »

hello, I love cactus, but killed the last one I owned.

Someone gave me three beautiful cactus last summer, they are large (one is three, one four and the other about seven feet tall).

The thing is two of them seem to be developing "ripples" on them. (the darker two in the pics, the lighter one seems fine)

Is this a sign that they are not happy? am I watering too much too little?

Please help, as I don't want to loose these too.

THANKS!!!

It´s an non-cactus succulent - Euphorbia ingens. The white one variegated form.

If I understand you, you're saying they are not really cactus, but rather a succulent which I understand, but are the ripples an indication of something bad?

(the variegated white one seems to be fine, it is only the two darker ones I am worried about, the taller one especially)

THANKS!!

They look slightly thirsty, but this is normal at this time and year and you shouldn't go pouring on loads of water. More importantly, they are receiving too little light. The thin pointy top on the stems is called etiolation and it is not healthy.

ripples are normal - for this specimen - they are also decorative - for what is this plant commercially grown but your plants need more light, because the new growth is too thin, elongated - etiolized.

I will find a place that they will get more light and try to give them just a bit more water.
