Does this Cleistocactus Colademononis aka Monkey tail need repotting?

It's rather full but still seems happy. Would you say it needs repotting? Or do Cleistocactus like small pots? Thanks :)

You have an attached drip tray If it is removable, look at the drain holes. Do you see roots? Does the pot dry out immediately? Is it very light even after watering That usually indicated a plants roots have taken over and there is little soil left to hold moisture.

Thanks again Mike for the tips. I actually took it out of its pot. There is a large network of roots so the soil did not spill. However the other point you mention about water, after watering it does become very heavy so I guess that means the roots aren't that dense yet to require a repot. I don't want to risk snapping the stems by moving it into a wider hanging bowl so I'm glad I can leave it for now.

They can be kept pretty tightly potted - their native habitat is on rocky slopes where there may not be much soil. If you do an image search for this species, you'll see some growing in rather small pots that are quite large - often blooming happily, too.

That's awesome! As long as it blooms then it's a good sign it's happy :) This is probably my favourite cactus actually.

Found this image of one planted in a rockery :)
