Ok, I've heard your pleas and am ready to respond.
A Succulent-other-than-cacti contest. Shall we?
But here I am not very adept, so I'll need your input. Want to pick one type like Aloes? or somthing more broad?
Let me know your thoughts. (Let's shoot for a 2-19-07 start date.)

Sure. I think almost every one of us has a few "other" succulents tucked away somewhere.
Because of the winter growing/flowering nature I might suggest we limit to either Asphodelaceae or Aizoaceae to give the contest at least some form.
Those living under the southern cross may disagree but both families also have summer growers as well.
Based on content in the forum, these may contain the most popular "other" genera among our members as well.
Just an idea ... GeneS

Well I'm OK with Gene's suggestions, I think I might need help with spelling out the details of this one. Anyone care to help with that?
Also, I think Martin has long been waiting for such a contest. With that in mind Stapelia seem to be a good subject too.

Okay, so why not just broaden it initially and open it up to favourite succulent flower (other than cactus), including only plants cultivated by the person submitting the picture. Maybe in future comps narrow down to a specific genus/group.

Thank you Daiv, that sounds great. I will go with any topic, but also like the "favourite succulent flower" topic to start the competition with. Succulents are such a huge group of plants, but here are a few more suggestions:
Aloes
Stapeliads
Lithops
Conophytum
Adenia
Euphorbia
Even general categories like "macro photos of succulents", "succulents in habitat", "succulent pollination", "succulents flourishing in greenhouses far from their natural habitats", etc. can be interesting topics.
Cheers

Yes, so many pictures, so few contests...
I like the first photo "MVC-861aFa.jpg" the most.
