Battered Opuntia engelmannii

Post by Avirosa »

My poor Opuntia had a tough winter in my garden, I need to get in and do some surgery. I am happy that it is still kicking after 2-3 weeks at -10 and below in December. Those spines are evil, so I'm putting it off... :| Image

Cool Opuntia! A closer view of spines and an eventual view of flowers would help with an ID. I suspect it's not Opuntia engelmannii.

I dunno what type it is either. However to deal with the spines use tongs and you can twist the pads off it you don't want to cut them off. Be warned tho, if you use that method you can damage non-damaged pads sometimes.
Here's to you, all you insidious creatures of green..er I mean cacti.
