Post by o_frank_o »

A short look of the 'Lophophora' part of my collection:

Most of them are Lophophora williamsii and Lophophora diffusa, crafted or own roots.

Hello again,

does someone have an idea, why my lophophora bloom so early this year ?
'Normally' they bloom in July / August, but this year they are the first in my cacti collection (Echinopsis-/Trichohybrids and Echinocereus).

Pictures of Lophophora fricii f. nova VZD 020 Ejido La Sol today:
(crafted on Harrisia jusbertii, and yes, this is the plant with the fruit mentioned above in this thread)

Frank,
Not sure why they would be early. I assume you did nothing different this year?

I will have to watch my plant to see if it does the same. Last year it was August for blooms too.

I had a Lophophora flowering in March, but then it was under artificial light. They are opportunistic and flower more or less any time it is warm enough, bright enough, and they have a bit of water. Bigger plants need less help and flower almost any time.

Spring is nice and sunny here so far with lots of early flowers. Germany too?

No, i did not do anything different than last year. During the winter in the heatable greenhouse they got no water, and the winter was hard this year with freezing until in the middle of March. I watered them in the beginning of April and they are earlier in blooming than for example Echinicereus viridiflorus, which normally blooms first in the year.

Simple plant, simple keeping, especially for beginners.
