growing cactus outside

Post by cuci01 »

Does any one know if I can put plastic on the ground where I have planted my cactus? I live in Utah and I thought someone told me that it would be very wrong to put down plastic covered with rock to keep the weeds down. I hope someone can help me. Thanks

I don't think you'd have a problem with that. As long as the plants could get enough water. That breathable plastic for example that is made for that. I'd say don't worry especially if you are growing opuntias.

You shouldn't have a problem. I landscaped a terrace by covering it in plastic then rock. I have opuntias and cholla growing on the terrace but I did open up a small area in the plastic where the cacti grow for the roots. I'm happy with the results
