Dustin,
You have a lot of neat plants too. Seems like everyone does.

That red gymo is interesting. Was it always red?
Or did it turn red?

Thanks everyone, and I agree with you John. My ariocarpus is confused. Thats probably my fault, for keeping gh heated through out the winter nites.

As for the Gymno it has always had a pink tint to its skin. When I noticed the pink turning to red I put it in the shade, and the red just got darker. You can kina see in the photo the only green skin is at the apex of the plant and a small amount of green between each rib. One thing I have noticed is that it does not take up water very well, but it does have a nice root system with no bugs.

Dustin, interesting. I am not expert at all, but I am not sure if that Gymo has a bad case of sunburn or if its lacking chlorophyll for another reason...

Thanks Darryl and Tony. I do believe the seedlings are creeping up on their 1yr bday, or have already lol (thats what happens when you dont properly lable)

Peter I too am bambozzeld about the Gymno. I think if it was sunburn there would be damage and scars after 10 months. Plus with it being in shade how does the new growth get sun burn? Maybe its a lack of nutrients?? Anyone know about that?? I do fert it when I do all the others.

I would have to agree there Dustin. I believe that if it was sun burn the skin of it would have turned brown or at least been scarred. If it hasnt I have no idea then.

The nutrients question is interesting, but I do not have an answer for you there. I dont know tons about fertilizing cacti. To be honest I watered one of my PP last year with some Miracle Grow. Before everyone gets all jumpy Ididnt want to waste the water and the mixture was probably too low, as I was using up the last little bit of green water left in the thing that attaches to your hose...

Thanks again all.

Peter once a summer I use miracle grow tomato mix on all my cacti. Of course it is a severly diluted mix, but all the plants love it, and you can actualy see em respond to it.

On another note a few more things going on in the GH today.

There are a couple of others in bud, and cannot wait to see if the really do flower. I keep them a secret for now :)

Dustin,
I see. I will have to see if they have the tomato mix for the type nozzle feeder thingy I have. I will say this, the Opuntia I watered with MG did grow pretty nice! its huge now:)

those Matucanas are pretty neat plants.:)

Hey Dustin,

I have a Gymno which behaves similarly. Good roots, slow to take water, and red to pink no matter where it sits - or for how long. Mine has different spines and less green than your picture but the green varies. I have been slow to really research and try to determine what it is. Compare...
