...this sample is in the youth stage and transforming to the adult stage with its central spines on top of the plant.
It is is particularly interesting that the observation of the plant development from radial spined youth-forms to the definite, wildly spined mature stem.
Its large flowers are purely yellow.
Solitary, spherical to short cylindrical, bluish-gray green stem, up to 8 cm tall, 6 cm in diameter.
In cultivation, contrary to its name difficilis (difficult), it does not show special problems. It is very slow-growing.
