Echinocactus horizonthalonius?

Post by hegar »

Hello,
here is yet another cactus native to Mexico. I have already had someone tell me, that most likely it is a Echinocactus horizonthalonius, but it looks different than the type that is growing here locally, because of the red and white spines and the less blue-green color.
Maybe you have an idea what this plant's scientific name is.

Yeah, I think that is a Thelocactus. Perhaps a Thelocactus heterochromus. What immediately made me think it was a Thelo is the fact that the flowers are 'naked' around the base.

Very keen observation Mr. Ondy! From what I've seen, the Thelo. you mentioned also has red/white striped spines.
