Yes, that's absolutely what is happening. Poor thing probably won't have a chance to develop as bad off as it looks. :cry: :-({|= :cry:

I'm constantly amazed at this species. Looks like it was dieing for sure about 20 years ago and then got some rain or just decided to grow. It has more than 20 years of excellent healthy growth on 4 or 5 of the arms. We won't know the outcome for this guy in our lifetimes Daiv.

I have my sites set on a plant that has a reported 57 arms near Quartzsite AZ in late January. I've seen it on television, but never in person. Our cactus club has a field trip planned for Quartzsite to find top dressings and other interesting rocks with a side trip to that plant.
