Welcome Craig Fry!
Re: Welcome Craig Fry!
The two T. Hoferi look very different. Both look amazing but right side plant with the more compact growth is my favorite.
Were they grown differently or is it a phenotypic difference?

Re: Welcome Craig Fry!
I water almost all my cactus all year long, keeps the roots active and from getting too shriveled.
But it never gets very cold here, and it's sunny almost every day as well.
They take up the water when they are ready.
I only water the Ariocarpus once every couple months in the winter
One of those T. hoferi was grafted then degrafted, so it's extra plump

Some late Winter Flowers
Sulcorebutia arenacea The color of this rebutia senilis always amazes me Echinocereus schmollii Echinocereus scheeri var. gentryi If I Auto Correct, the color is way too intense Neowerdermannia vorwerkii
Self fertile,
last year I had terrible germination rates
used some treatment on a second batch and they were worse,

Re: Welcome Craig Fry!
This was a weird occurrence...
I was taking a photo of this Coryphantha difficilis
Since it was the first time it flowered I took it out of the hot box and put it on a shelf outside the green house to photograph the flowers close-up, to document the feathery nature of the petals
And this native bee flies into the flower like it owns the place Then the bee dives into the flower center and disappears Then reappears about 10 seconds later covered with pollen I just wonder why this bee knew this flower was a flower of interest?
Did it get into the hot box before and find this flower, it does have a small opening that it could have found to get in before I took it out.

Re: Welcome Craig Fry!
Some flowers look entirely different under UV light. Some have patterns that appear to direct pollinators in that direction. Maybe here too.

Just being able to watch the process is awesome. You think the plant was pollinated?

Re: Welcome Craig Fry!
My Astrophytum caput-medusae often flower when no others are flowering
So I apply other Astrophytum species pollen that are flowering for hoped for hybrids
Especially my earlier Hybrid, "Astrotopia" pollen
This year I have an over abundance of seeds
I put red marks on the seed pods to distinguish hybrid seeds from pure crosses The seedlings are a mix of hybrids and normal "selfed" caput-medusae
