two Ferocactus?
two Ferocactus?
Hi,
Two pretty Ferocactus I think.
1. This one had a label, F pottsii, but I don't think so. Looks more like emoryi rectispinus. What do you think.
2. This had no label, looks like it could be F pottsii.
Thanks Mike

Lewis; It is my understanding that *inermis* means spineless or very lacking in spines.
Yes, flowers like normal. If you look closely at the top, you can see the red/pink flower buds starting, it's alot further along now. They are very noticeable as of today (that was back when i got it in November) must have 20-25 buds up there I'd link you to Tony's plant in flower, but his pic seems to be missing.
Not sure if it's a cultivar or not, but i'd suspect so...?
Bob; Thanks, but can't take credit, boutgh it like that. but it's still offsetting now, so i'm doing Ok with it

ariskal,
If my F. pottsii var. alamosanus is ID'd correctly, it looks nothing like your plant. More ribs, darker green and has long redish/pinkish cetral spines, similar to the F. emoryi var. rectuspinus above.
(hrrrm, actually...is there a F. alamosanus var. pottsii??)
On your plant, The spines seem to protrude outwards, where as Mike's F. pottsii seem to sit flat, closer to the plant. Although both plants have 13 ribs and are very similar in color...so maybe the spine variation is just growing conditions and it's a F. pottsii.
my n00b 2 cents
EDIT: ok, well after a little search, mine is F. alamosanus v. pottsii. But actually looks more like just F. alamosanus... I'm alittle confused now and might just have confused you too...sorry.
