Cacti flowering in fall
Cacti flowering in fall
It's the end of the season and I have a few echinopsis starting to bloom. Is this normal? Thanks in advance.

These plants can be just late with their bloom. Or your summer is still ongoing.
What is your climate?
In collections Ariocarpus sp. are typical fall bloomers. Also Ferocactus latispinus. My Mammillaria huitzilopochtli also blooms in December even in Oaxaca they experience no real winters but just dry season.
In subtropical climates I have seen many species of Mammillaria, Cleistocactus, Opuntia, Echinocactus grusonii and others (still) blooming in October & November.

I'm in Kentucky. I believe we're zone 5b. Gets down to the teens(F) here. Right now I'm having highs in the 60s and lows in the 30s. Only thing I can think of is I gave my plants one last good watering while we were having a few days of good weather. Few days later I had buds on a couple echinopsis.

Keeping those plants indoors? If weather worsens the buds can be aborted or stay small until next spring.Few days later I had buds on a couple Echinopsis.

Re: Cacti flowering in fall
I've often had Echinopsis set flower buds that don't bloom that year - they may bloom the next year. or even after several years, but sometimes they never bloom.
