Opuntia zebrina f.reticulata origin?

Post by Mrs.Green »

According to llifle the origin of this cactus is a bit uncertain. http://www.llifle.com/Encyclopedia/CACT ... reticulata

Anyone here who knows more about the origin of this cactus? :)

Fairly obvious a monstrose form. Probably originally a sport of a normal plant that has been removed and propagated.

Reticulate = netted, referring to the net like scars over the pads.

Thank you Anttisepp, Mikethecactusguy and DaveW? I finf this cactus oddly attractive and the very bright red leaves on the new pads very nice looking. Are there other Opuntias with the same strong red colour on the leaves? A pity they fall off though..
