I diped fresh end into rooting powder, and it immediately turned red like blood! Did I kill it?

Did you read the label on the powder? Maybe there is a dye in it so you can see if you've gotten all of the surface covered?
I don't think it matters what plant you applied the hormone to, but more details can help in getting answers. What hormone powder did you use?
