I’ve had opuntia split watering from the hose, so not sure that says much, that’s established plants. Initial rooting of pads, not so much, many will never hydrate but will kick out happy new growth.

Ticket may be finding one that kicks out roots before losing too much water, or not really worry about it as they still support good growth while looking neglected.

Overhydration, bursting, cracking. As mentioned earlier from rain water.
