Possible rebutia

Post by Rogerse »

Hey everyone! This is my first request for a cactus ID. I got this cactus about a year ago and can't find any name for it on the internet. It's about 4 inches tall and 1.5 inches in diameter. It has 21 radial spines with a single spine in the center that bends upward usually. I think it might be some type of Rebutia but it hasn't flowered yet so I'm not positive. Any information would be greatly appreciated!!

thankyou, Teo it does seem to be more simillar to the M. elegans than the Rhodantha mainly because it only has a single central spine protruding from the areole rather than 4.

Flowers would help nail it down - M. elegans blooms late winter/early spring, while M. rhodantha blooms repeatedly throughout the growing season.

Looks more like elegans to me, too.

That looks super similar too I'm on the fence between that one and the M. elegans ill have to look and research a little more into both and their distinguishing characteristics to try to splice it out! Thankyou!

M. elegans is considered a subspecies of haageana by Hunt.

I associate M. matudae with upward pointing (short) central spines - this (in 3rd image) seems to have that so it's a possibility. Here's images (old and newer) of mine.

Thank you all for the help! definitely thinking it was an M. matudae after doing a little deeper digging and comparing it to my cactus.
