Peniocereus fosterianus X Sowing--No Success

Post by tumamoc »

Does anyone here have experience growing any tropical Peniocereus species from seeds? I was able to get fruit with seeds by crossing P. fosterianus and P. rosei both ways. The attached picture is P. rosei x fosterianus on the left, and P. fosterianus x rosei on the right. A fellow at the local C&S nursery suggested they might be sterile. I hope not. Anyway, I tried weakening the seed coat by soaking in a mild acid solution, but got nothing. Are there any cacti species that require knicking of the seeds to germinate? Any thoughts or tips? Thanks.
