Identification and help

Post by Aerwhite »

Hi

Please can someone tell me what this one is. Also, it seemed to struggle, then had done regrowth but is now struggling again and the main stem has gone a purple translucent sort of colour. I'm a novice when it comes to succulents so am concerned I've damaged it somehow.

Tia!

Graptopetalum paraguayense, I think. If grown in shade they're a blue-gray color, hence the common name "ghost plant". If given some sun they develop purplish tints, but they do well in either sun or light shade. Purple color of the stem is not a sign of trouble, as long as it's firm. See: http://www.llifle.com/Encyclopedia/SUCC ... raguayense

I'm not sure about that soil, though, it should contain quite a bit of coarse grit for good drainage. What kind of a mix are you using?

yes, some Graptopetalum (probably hybrid). Soil is not good... add quite a bit of coarse grit at least 60-70% to the soil you already have. More sun, but take it gradually - you don't want to burn the plant.
