Photos from my greenhouse

Post by ElieEstephane »

My greenhouse is still a work in progress and it's not what i want it to be. It's currently 9x4.5m. I wanted to build a polycarbonate greenhouse but governmental bureacracy says i need a very complicated permit. Incidentally, the uglier hoophouse/pe film doesn't need a permit.
I built this rudimentary greenhouse with a couple of buddies in one afternoon in a effort to finish before a big storm. I still have to build benches and raised beds.

Does it proves to be storm resistant?
I'am affraid such pe film would tear in heavy storm

BTW...nice job, well done on the greenhouse
And good luck for the remaining part yet to be built

First of all, thank you! I'm not sure if i have ferocactus gracilis since i have a few noID ferocacti and a lot that are grown from mixed seeds. I bought the biggest golden barrels 3 years ago. They were a little smaller than a fist. They grow very fast but last year they didn't grow much because they are very rootbound. I will repot them this year.
As for the greenhouse, it is quite storm resistant. However, we had a terrible windstorm a couple of weeks back and since i left one side open (to prevent overheating) 100+ km/h blew inside it and caused part of the plastic to become loose from the wiggle wire. This in turn cause the plastic to collect rain and part of the metal collapsed under load. That's my fault because i left it open and because i only used 10mm steel.
Here are some of the ferocacti and echinocacti:

Hahaha...how do you plan to do that?
Holding that cactus for repoting is a problem by it self...hahaha

I use a thick piece of foam and lay the cactus on it. It makes handling so much easier. Sometimes i use this method described by wayne:

You can also use a piece of carpet to hold an manipulate large spiny plants.

Great greenhouse and a fantastic collection! Show some of your great looking Mamms one of these days.

Here are some mammillarias from the staging area. This bench is mostly mammillaria elongata variations, Leucocephalae and polyacanthae. Having to resize is drastically affecting colors and quality
