Nomenclature question about Namaqua

Post by Jangaudi »

I'm not that familiar with the nomenclature of plant identification, and I know it does change over time, so I was wondering if a plant with the epithet namaquanum or namaquensis is one and the same species. I get this much that they grow in the Namaqua region, but that is as far as I can figure it out :D
Long story short ; I ordered seeds of a species ending with the namaquensis epithet, but am unable to find any other information about it, though my search keeps jumping to namaquanum.

Always try IPNI

Eriospermum namaquanum Marloth ex P.L.Perry, J. S. African Bot. 50(4): 521 (1984) (1984).

Yes, I did notice some entries for namaquanum, but nothing for namaquensis, except for the seed shop itself. So can I assume this is an error / archaic epithet and thus the same species ?

An interesting question, I must say. Don't know the answer myself.
I personally always regard these differences as spelling / writing errors, so I would regard them as synonyms.
