OK Pompom ... you asked for it ... now you got it.

I took this picture the day ir arrived. the only thing in the pic for scale is my hand.

This is 3 years 4 months worth of growth. The cactus is now 185mm in height, and 145mm in width.
From the side...

From the top... look at all the wool! Very pretty the way it adorns the top of the cactus.

I took this one in an attempt to illustrate the dish shaped depression in the top. 2d pictures just don't do a good job of showing 3D shapes.

the spines are short, very stiff, and extremely sharp... I love the way they start out white and then transform into dark brown. Despite the fact that you're so small and you have to look very hard for them, I really do think they're quite attractive.

you've noticed the "growths" (I'm not sure what to call them at this point, although I'm inclined to think that they are offsets) on the sides. whatever they are, there are at least 16 of them. These groups do have some dip to them, but again 2D pictures don't do a good job illustrating 3D objects. here's some closeups...join

Photo mh5~3 impeccably illustrates cacti leaves! You can still them on the tips of rhe tubercules. They will be shed soon.
Thanks for sharing wayne!

Thank you so much for sharing these pictures Wayne! I really, deeply adore your m. hahniana! Offsets, huh? That's way too cool! It's going to look pretty bizarre when they grow more. Can't wait to see that! Congrats of your new babies!
I too love the way the spines change color. My bigger and smaller hahniana have different shades in spines which fascinates me. The bigger is more red than the smaller one. Or not more red, the spines are red. The smaller has much darker spines, they look similar to your hahniana. Sorry the pics turned out to be little bad.

And about the color changes of the spines. I can't get enough of the new baby gymno, I just stare it every day. The spines of it are too much for me! I tried my best to catch the real color in these pictures. I think the picture from side does better job since the color of the body looks more true than in picture from above. Isn't the color changing beautifully?
