Our white lilac had some visitors today.

An ant visited it:

The bee was there also, but flew away before I manage to do anything with my camera.

Wow! We have one of those in our yard and the leaf buds only just started growing today. We area long way from flowering! Wish I could be smelling that right now. Nothing like Lilacs!

One of the few plants that does WORSE in California than in colder climates. It will survive here but the winter doesn't get cold enough for the plant to realize it is winter and it should be dormant. So when it flowers the timing is random and you never get the nice displays you do in cold areas. I miss it from my years growing up in Colorado.

My lilac ended its blooming and has no flowers (this spring I have been lucky, it was full of flowers ), so yesterday I lightly pruned it. Do you think I can let some suckers grow? It's a big plant and has a large space to grow.

I always took them off. Both of the lilacs I tended to died many years ago tho.. in a different place far from the desert. The purple one was lost due to some kind of fungus, if I remember correctly and the white one was damaged by an ice storm, in fact it was more like it was damaged when a white pine lost about 20 branches that fell on top of it.

I have two old-fashioned lilacs (Syringa vulgaris). That's how they were labeled. I have on the north side of the house and every year they have flowered and one spike of flowers is enough for the whole inside of the house. Very strong but very nice.

hmm wonder If I could get some to grow on the north side of my house? it's where my cooler is so there is plenty of water I could tap into! ....hmmm..

Poor seed season last year, no spring, and the flowers this year were so poor, no seeds formed. The trees have dropped over half of their leaves already. Maybe this fall I'll drive to the foothills and get some for you, it only a 3 mile drive.

hahaha lol the drive to the post office for me is 3.5 miles but thanks. Its been so dry here.. lol and of course with plants I totally understand. if not this year maybe next year

Lilacs are just getting started here - a few are starting to open up.
