acquired cacti in decline
acquired cacti in decline
Hi I acquired these four cacti and two euphorbia from an estate after they went well into decline. Im trying to identify them. I think the first one is a mature gymno horstii. The fifth plant a euphorbia enopla but notice the thorns are black not red with the exception of one or two. The fouth plant a euphorbia submammillaris and i have been looking at pictures to identify plant numbers two three and six but i havent found matches yet. I re-potted most of these but i want to identify them before administering water (epiphany after the fact) to be sure i used a proper medium for each plant. They were all in a heavy peat mix with sand i think. The substrate was nothing like i would use. However the first plant seems happy and is clumping, notice also the spines on this plant are black except the newest one which is a tan color. Ok, thanks cacti people!

The first one is a Gymnocalycium. G. hosrtii? Looks like it should be OK if it has roots.

Thinking the same as Pilif
Once bitten by the cactus collecting/growing bug, there is no known cure!
There's no 12 step programme for Cactaholics...so I shall just have to get some more!!

Re: acquired cacti in decline
cleistocactus strausii on #2 is possible but the older parts of the plant appear yellow and not silver and the columns are only about the diameter of a nickel. Perhaps due to poor growing conditions?
Parodia Scopa have white spines right? The snowball cactus? Cactus # 6 is a rich colored yellow and much more stubby columnar than globose but that is hard to see from the picture taken looking down on the plant.
Any input on # 3. thick black spines and suppose to be green but looks sunburned and water starved.
