WalMart and Home Depot will have them. They always have them here.

Indeed they do, and I bought a little one in the 4oz pot, however the tag only says "Opuntia Sublata" excluding the montrose part. I want the montrose due to it's abnormalities and being a dwarf.

The "monstrose" part you should be able to just see.
Once bitten by the cactus collecting/growing bug, there is no known cure!
There's no 12 step programme for Cactaholics...so I shall just have to get some more!!

Could you expand on this a bit? I'm new to cacti collecting and any help would be appreciated. Perhaps if I post a pic I can get an opinion?

Teelow - I use Cactipedi.com a lot. Go there, they don't have a peruvianus, but show several "monstrose" forms & you'll understand. The pic vs. 1000 words  But monstrose forms can be found in almost every species. They have multiple growing points. In C. "peruvianus" it appears to be fairly common - or at least is cultivated for commercialism a lot. It's sort of an exaggerated "crisata" form.

I've tried grafting on it, but it doesn't work very well. I believe that the source of it's deformity is that it is hyperactive and growing side-shoots - and poor at growing at the tip, which is where the graft is. Grafts do survive okay, but they don't thrive or grow much.

its because the Montrose form is not normal and grows from many points instead of one at the tips as was hinted at.
Here's to you, all you insidious creatures of green..er I mean cacti.
