Correct scientific name?

Post by joeyboy11223 »

Hey folks I ordered a few cacti from an online supplier but a couple where out of stock so I got substitutions which are not on the website.

For one of them I'm not sure if it's correct..or if it has an unneeded last part to the name.

It states Rebutia donaldiana hofmannii

Obviously when I search for Rebutia donaldiana I get a lot of results, but when I add hofmannii..I don't seem to get anything.

Can anyone clear this up before I go sticking labels on the pots? Cheers.

Rebutia donaldiana and Rebutia hoffmannii used to be two distinctive species before the genus was decimated during recent lumping of names ...................now they are

Rebutia donaldiana synonym of Rebutia fiebrigii

Rebutia hoffmannii synonym of Rebutia spinosissima

not sure where your seller is coming from with that combination of names :dontknow:

Ah I see...

well their site sells Rubutia hoffmannii. If it is that is Rebutia spinosissima the updated name?

It's a small cacti which I've got in a 3" pot. At that size could you tell the difference between R.fiebrigii and R. spinosissima? If so I'll sort out uploading a photo of it.
