Point and shoots are getting scary nowadays though, wife's little 2 year old p&s camera comes in at just 2Mpixel short of my 14Mpixel DSLR.
Not sure if it still worls like it used to but back in the day the Paintshop Pro demo version used to run indefinately, was a 30day trial thing but after the 30days expired all you got was a warning that it indeed had expired...program still worked just like before. :-"

I tend to use the software that came with the camera to crop and scale images from the DSLR, also works for post processing although not as well as say Photoshop. Do have Photoshop on the main desktop, leftover from when I used to do mod and freelance work in 3D gameart, but hardly ever bother starting the main rig up nowadays. Favour using my laptop that to this day have none of those fancy programs installed on it.

I'm struggling with the 800px limit. So many of my photos are sized a bit over this and I'm never going to resize thousands of pictures. They are mostly small enough since they were created small for this or other forums.

OK gang. I think this problem is now solved! Another major issue behind us. Really getting it down to only the style issues.

The "corn" picture was originally: 3456 x 2592 (2.34MB) while the cowboy was the same dimensions at 1.82MB on the original.

Can someone else give this a try? I want to make sure it works even if you are not logged in as "admin".

@Peter - I found that code modification from 2009 right away, but I was really skeptical of it. I finally just gave it a try and man was that an easy fix! I wish I would have tried it sooner. Would have saved me a lot of headache.

Ian, hey I see you just posted this. Can you try a couple now? I think I got it now and you shouldn't have to resize....

Mammillaria luethyi. Original image well over 1064x899 pixels and 200kb. Image in forum 710x600 pixels and 91kb. Should it be resized that small? Your earlier pictures were 800 pixels on the largest side.

Ian, here I asked you for a fast response and then I got distracted by an e-mail. Anyway, I just left the default setting of 800 WIDE by 600 TALL So at 800 WIDE, your picture is still over 600 TALL so it further reduced it to 600 TALL.

daiv wrote:For those in the know - please reduce your images prior to uploading. We had been at 600 x 600 pixels, but I think technology has advanced such that going to the 800 x 800 size from here out would be fine and not take up that much more space than the other."
Hi Daiv. Wow - I hadn't been on for sometime and everything looks different :)

Tried to upload a pic today and getting the same message others have noted.
It was a 45K jpeg (480x360). I only see an "Upload attachment" tab.

regards

p.s. smilies didn't appear (at least not in "preview") so I set it to "disable" :)
