Some newbies!

Post by cactuspolecat »

I took a drive to my favourite local nursery on Saturday to pick up a propagation heat bed that I had on order, and come home with a few succs (and cacti)...

Titanopsis calcarea, and it flowered the very next day...

Conophytum calculus.

Echeveria purpusorum, this is one I get to strike off my wishlist!...

Haworthia "Grey Ghost"... the lady who runs the nursery, proudly showed me this nice H. "Grey Ghost" she'd found, then proceeded to knock it out of it's pot and offered me one of the pups as a gift... how could I refuse such sweet generosity?

Enjoy, CP

Very nice! Especially that Conophytum, it doesn't look like a plant.

Nice Plants. I understand that cono's can be more addictive than cacti.

DieTer-Xz's comment,

... I just went out to the greenhouse and checked... yep! I'm pretty sure it is a plant,

Addiction? addiction? ...I haven't got an addiction! "now where did I put that conophytum sale list"...
Seriously though, not much chance of aquiring that addiction down here... this is the first time in more than 30 years of growing c&s that I've ever seen one for sale at a nursery.
I'm really blessed in that the lady that runs the nursery is always on the lookout for something "different" for me, when she goes to the mainland, so these and the cacti that I bought this weekend come down to her choice. So I never know what she'll bring back next.

Hi CP, Nice plants, but are you sure the Titanopsis is calcarea and not the more choice Hugo-Schlecteri. The colour suggests that it is the second?

Hey Tim, it's the mean streak in me that does it...heheheh.

John, I don't know much about the Titanopsis, the tag said calcarea, but it's possible that it may be wrong.
I just had a look on desert tropicals site, and it says calcarea has orange-yellow flowers, and hugo-schlecteri has yellow flowers, so it looks like your observations are correct.
So I'll rename it at some stage.
