Agave inflorescence .branching?

Agave inflorescence .branching?

is it common for an agave inflo shoot to produce a branching and go ahead if the original apex is cut or broken ? i have observed it for the first time.

Haven't seen that before. I saw cut flower stalks of Agave before, but they never produced something like that.
