I posted N. leninghausii's remarkable flowers but I'm also a fan of this, Notocactus rudibuenekeri:

I love South American cacti but grow precious few of them. Someday!

Google it. Several Opuntias are native to Florida and some very rare Harrisia fragrans to name a few.

Copiapoas, you say? I love this one but it only ever manages to look scruffy in photos. C. krainziana:

This one is very ordinary, yet it always looks imposing in photos. C. coquimbana:

This one is like a very tall Copiapoa. Eulychnia saint-peana, about the best of a rather scruffy genus:

Harriet, actually I think there are more then a few Opuntias that grow in the South, but I could be wrong.
After looking it up on Google it seems that there are two. O. humifusa and O. stricta.

I thought there were more then that. Oh well. I learn something new everyday!

Sorry, but we have more than two. These may be synonomous with the others, but there is also O. millspaughii, O. spinossima (AKA Consolea spinosissima or Florida semaphore cactus) O. splendens (AKA polycantha) O. pusilla (AKA drummondii). Interesting to note that in Anderson's book he basically says he includes east coast Opuntia but that little is known about them.

Problem is that they are not easy to locate for sale, and I for one, am not prone to harvesting them from the wild as many are at best threatened...

ah well Google isnt the most reliable of all sites...
I suspected that there were more. I dont have any books on Cacti either. I need to get some!

As for taking plants from the wild, I am not very keen on that either. Most cacti are restricted in one way or another in Arizona. Somewhere I have a list of all the restricted plants and its long. (btw some of them are considered noxious weeds and arent cacti at all!)
