Edit: Thanks to some help from Bob, credit for this contest topic goes to Franj, who suggested it in an earlier post.

This week, the focus is on cacti spines. Pick your favorite or most interesting spine picture. It can be any species, close-up far away, etc. There is no question that this is the feature tha cacti are best known for -let's all find out why. :thumbup:

Post all your pictures for "Cactus Spines" -Contest Number 7 in this thread.

Contest will run from June 4 through June 17

You have Until June 10, 2006 to enter a picture in the contest.

Voting will be from June 11 to June 17

Remember: Pictures should be no larger than 600 pixels in either height or width!

Can't wait to see all those wonderful spines!

Here's my submission. I don't know the scientific name, but this photo was taken in Sonora, MX this spring and they called it 'hecho.'

Well, I was going to post a super macro of M. pectinifera, but mavaz beat me to that species, sooo, here is M. matudae. Imagine an ant falling from an air-o-plane and falling onto one of these vertical centrals!! :shock:
