Contest 30: Winter Dormant Plants

Post by CoronaCactus »

Well, for most of us, this is the winter dormancy time of year for our plants, so this contest is going for the dormant theme. The plants do not need to be snow covered to be included as a dormant plant :)

This months prize will be a live plant! You get to choose between a cactus or a succulent.

Cactus: Melocactus violaceus

Succulent: Gibbaeum album

Contest 30: Winter/Dormant Plants
Can be either cacti or succulents, in habitat or cultivation, depicting a winter and/or dormant state. Snow covered, leaf covered, a plant whose lost its leaves, that precious gem you have wrapped in a blanket, all those *touchy* plants tucked away in a heated greenhouse, shelves full of plants in a dark cool basement, or the brave plants out in habitat battling the elements...lets see those great pics!

Deadline for submissions: Sunday, December 21st, 2008

Good Luck to all!!
Happy Holidays to all!!

Echincactus polycephalus

This picture reflects is one of my favorite memories. On a field trip with minerologists in the mountains near Barstow, CA, my mother-in-law says "those look like cacti in the snow!". Wow, a whole field full of echocacti, echinocereus, opuntias and yuccas, amazing
