nice looking seedlings and great choice in species, a lot of those are unfamiliar to me

I've found Acharagma incredibly difficult at the small seedlings stage. I suspect they want more heat. Or maybe more water. I'll let you know if I get them licked. They usually show coloured spines at a pretty early stage. Yours might be a stray Escobaria.

Peter, I've looked at Boyce Thompson plants of yours. Apart from what was already said, #2 must be Miquelopuntia. They usually got longer spines - I'm sure next year you will see them.

This species is fairly regularly available here in the valley, and I'm quite certain of the ID as shorter-spined clone Cylindropuntia californica var. rosarica. Here is a photo of mine in bloom this summer.

I guess you are right. Very similar looking plants, flower buds easy to tell apart.

A couple of November flowers, always nice to see. Sort of surprised by the leninghausii flower.

Nice flowers, Peter.

Beautiful Ariocarpus agavoides flowers here, and then a bunch of spine shots. I truly do grow cacti mostly for their spines. I mean, I love the flowers, but I am always most drawn to cacti that look amazing all year because of their armament or shape. I don't think I could ever get very interested in the Echinoopsis hybrids, for example. Anyway, in a few weeks, all the plants will be in storage for the winter, except for the ones that like the winter rains, which will stay out. They go in in mid-December and then back out again a scant 6-8 weeks later.

Scary plants. Keep them in a cage if you're going to let them in the house ...

Spines on a cactus are like the salt in the soup. :D
I especially like them if they are colored or new grown.
Anyway, I also like cacti without any spines.
