PB's flower pics '09 update 8/26

The Peniocereus maculatus has had 4 buds on it for weeks. Two of them decided to take off in the past day or two while the other two continue to sit there.
I took pics at 7:30, 8:30, 9:30, midnight, 2:30 (have insomnia lately) and 7:30 am.
The flowers were not highly fragrant as are P. greggii, but had a sort of rank, sour, musty odor. Definitely a different pollinator. I'm assuming the flowers will not self.

The only flowering action here right now is one of the very few South American cacti I have, the very nicely clumping, miniature Discocactus buenekeri. I love these highly fragrant nocturnal flowers. These two were photographed after a downpour last night, our area's first significant rain in many months:
