It's been looking like monsoon for a week or so. Humidity is 42% and dew point is 70F @ 94F ambient temp. (11PM MST/PDT) Seems like it should be raining or something...

Hmmm, love the temperature differences noted on this site. It's just about noon, 91 degrees and 80% humidity here... and it's not raining!

The Peniocereus maculatus has had 4 buds on it for weeks. Two of them decided to take off in the past day or two while the other two continue to sit there.

I took pics at 7:30, 8:30, 9:30, midnight, 2:30 (have insomnia lately) and 7:30 am.

The flowers were not highly fragrant as are P. greggii, but had a sort of rank, sour, musty odor. Definitely a different pollinator. :-) I'm assuming the flowers will not self.

=D> Good show, peterb! =D> My Penio maculatus keeps sending out new arm buds, but they all seem to fall off. It could be years before I get a flower. For what it's worth, those maculatus flowers look alot like those of Penio rosei.

The only flowering action here right now is one of the very few South American cacti I have, the very nicely clumping, miniature Discocactus buenekeri. I love these highly fragrant nocturnal flowers. These two were photographed after a downpour last night, our area's first significant rain in many months:

Thanks Alex, yes this is a great little plant. Another thing I like about it is it seems to just soak up the extreme heat here. Just loves the 110F days and 85F nights.

It is fitting that that is flowering by itself as you say. This way you can really give it the attention it deserves! What a prime specimen - and on its own roots too?
