That's awesome .TimN wrote: ↑Thu Oct 03, 2019 4:40 pmLOL. To the left is an Echinocereus, to the right is a Mamm. melanocentra. The orange flower is plastic and was hot glued to a G. saglionus I got recently. I stick it on different plants depending on my mood.Sarraceniacrazy wrote: ↑Wed Oct 02, 2019 11:02 pm Beautiful stuff! What's the plant behind the E, sneedii? The red one. Does it have orange blooms?

What do you use for staging/benches? Looks like an aluminum grid in places and a plastic grid in others? I have my plants outdoors and I'm trying to find a staging solution that's sturdy and can deal with the elements (sun mostly) while not costing an arm and a leg...
Re: TimN 2012 Photo Topic
The aluminum-looking benche tops are manufactured steel pieces I bought for cheap at a scrap yard. The plastic ones are from greenhousemegastore.com and are called DURA-BENCH PLASTIC BENCHTOP.
I build stands for them from wood. All fairly amateur, but I've never had a failure. The plastic benchtop is a little flimsier than I expected, but I'm going to add additional support when I move to my new shade hut.

The bees were buzzing around in the shade hut last weekend. They were after the Astro flowers...
And it's getting to Ariocarpus time of year.
I bought this from Miles more than 10 years ago. It's the mother plant to the next two.
I was kind of surprised to see flowers on such a small plant.
Another from the same batch.
A lot of the plants are putting out their last flowers before winter.

A couple more flowers from yesterday. I get home from work later than in the past so most of the flowers are either closed or closing by the time I get there.

Took some pictures the other day. Used the macro lens a little.
I think there are already pictures of this plant. I got it years ago from Miles as a tiny seedling. Escobaria minima - artsy picture with the macro I got this years ago off craigslist. I don't get flowers very often because I can't keep it wet enough. I got these from Miles a couple of weeks ago. Weird looking Mammillarias! Mammillaria Fred with macro Mammillaria pectinifera - I got this at the InterCity sale labeled as M. solisiodes. There were three and I only bought one... Mammillaria saboa haudeana with a few late flowers. Pachycereus pringlii seedlings. I got them from Arizona Cactus sales and they've grown quite well. In the ground with them next spring! Turbinicarpus alonsoii in partial shade. Macro shot of the T. alonsoii Turbinicarpus gracilis (the tiny one) flowering at this size. I must have two dozen of these things from volunteer seedlings. Another small flowering Turbinicarpus; lophophroides this time. I also get a fair number of these as volunteers.

Your M. bertholdii from Miles have more heads going than mine. Kinda sad I only got one of the clones as the other sold out quick.
Re: TimN 2012 Photo Topic
I got clone 2. I thought I made an order as soon as I saw them, but the email sat in my outbox for a few days so I didn't get one of each.
I'm not exactly sure what to make of them at this point. They sure are strange for Mammillaria...

Yea, I only got clone 2 also, but then I had remorse I didn't get clone 1 also, and by that time it was sold out. I've got a nice little weird collection of mammilarias started. bertholdi, luethyi, gracilis cv. oruga, carmenae with red spines, bombycina with split spines, and a hernandezi.
I didn't think I was a fan of mams, but those little weird ones appeal to me.

Very nice plants!!
Did you get to pollinate your Arios?
I managed to get a clone 1 as I made my order within a few hours of the new list being uploaded.
I bet Miles will clone new ones faster than me, but, if I clone a few I might offer them.

A cactus and succulent collector who especially likes Ariocarpus. …Though I have a bit of everything! Want some pictures? See my flickr! I also do art and such.

Re: TimN 2012 Photo Topic
I did several of my Fissuratus with each other (2-3 more have flower buds started, but not sure they'll actually bloom/open inside now), but I still have a lot of seed left from this year. I also tried to do 1-2 fissuratus with a retusus.
I cross pollinated my two retusus, which one is fat and the other is more angular, hopefully it takes.
I also crossed my trigonus with one of the retusus (cause I only have 1 trigonus of flowering size).
Also, they all sat together outside close together, so it's possible some insects did the work for me and who knows what comes out.
And if none of that works, I've got roughly 20-30 pereskiopsis grafts of retusus/trigonus/fissuratus that will flower next year.

The end of summer is always a nice time in the cactus hut.
My Aztekium hintonii decided to shoot out one tiny flower. Ariocarpus lloydii with flowers The Ariocarpus were making seeds like crazy.
A couple of late summer Onzukas A retusus seedlings, started in January. The tall brown thing is a Peniocereus greggii. Those snuck into a few pots of seeds. These Ferocactus seedlings did the best of all that I sowed in January. I got these seeds in 2006 from a plant outside the Carefree, Arizona town hall. They had a long straight central spine. You can see that starting to develop. More later....
