CactiGuide.com Short Downtime is Comming!!!

Everyone,
CactiGuide.com is up and running successfully over at Cactus-Mall. We are most likely going to make the change today. This means that the forum will be disabled for a couple hours.

Like Daryll mentioned, there will be a period where you might be connecting to the old servers due to DNS. I will post a message here that says we are on the new servers. If you don't see that message, don't post because you will be looking at the old servers and loose whatever you put in.

Ok, we've got a time picked.

We're going to shoot for 8:00AM Pacific Time/5:00PM London Time.

(The Cactus-Mall server is very fast and so things won't slow down here at all.)

there may be a short downtime tomorrow, cactus-mall servers are being reconfigured at 4.00 am Eastern Standard Time (approximately 11am UK time).

whilst America blissfully slept i missed my morning dose of cactiguide and BCSS forum news and had to make do with the nicotine and caffeine fix before venturing out into the garden to lay a few more bricks.

the server was down for a little longer than expected at around 2 hours, but all seems well again now

congratulations to Tony Mace and the team for a flawless upgrade

Thanks for the announcement. I got an e-mail from Tony Mace on this on 10-20-2008 and it had a date of October 13 for the down time. So I thought it had already happened and he got the notice out late... I was wondering what the deal was. See here:

CACTUS-MALL SERVER CUSTOMER ANNOUNCEMENT

We need to do some reconfiguration work on the Cactus-Mall server to allow the databases to continue to increase in size.

This will involve some repartitioning of the disks and data copying. It is expected that the work will involve approximately 30 minutes of downtime. I have scheduled this for 4.00am EST (Eastern Standard Time), 11am UK time.
