a light problem.

Post by Kuroc »

Let me explain the problem. I need to bring my succulents in during winter.
But I'm not sure if the window that the table will go buy will have enough light.
Here is a pic of the light coming though the window:

A few questions.
1.Do succulents need as much light during winter then in spring, summer, and fall?
2.Should I rotate the succs once a day?
3.Should I get a grow light?
4.Will they stop or grow very little during winter?
5.Should I bring them in mid november or at the begining of december?(I live in zone8A)
6.When should I put them back outside?

I don't want them to be inside anylonger then they have to.
I just don't want any of my succulents to die.

Thanks in advance.

It depends on exactly what you're growing. Many things will stop growing if it's cool enough and they get no water. In which case the amount of light is unimportant.
Some winter growers and things like Echevieria, Haworthia I find want to keep growing ever so slightly.

When to bring them in? When it gets cold! I don't know how predictable your weather is but for me I've already had a fairly hard frost 2/3 of the way through September. Some years it stays warm enough until near Christmas! If you've not got many plants (so the move can be done fairly quickly) just keep an eye on the weather forecast.
