Ramapo Valley County Reservation Mahwah, NJ

Post by jerrytheplater »

My wife and I went for a walk at the Ramapo Valley County Reservation in Mahwah, NJ on March 29, 2024. We did a loop hike and passed by what is called "Cactus Ledge" on the "Vista Loop" trail with yellow blazes. The Opuntia humifusa were just waking up. They are located in a full sun southern exposure on a rock ledge. It is at an elevation of about 610 feet and located at 41 degrees 05' 08.27" N Latitude and 74 degrees 11' 31.94" W Longitude.

My wife used her phone to take a photo for me:

A totally different habitat than what you normally post!! But they are growing wild. They also grow at sea level on Sandy Hook, NJ in the sand dunes. All over.
