Re: Hana's cacti
It is the last month of autumn in here but it seems some ariocarpus species will not be in flower in this season.
The photo is one of them, a retusus v furfuraceus cv Daruma seiji. This one was also no flowers last two autumns. The cactus is a rooted off-set and shows the character of cultivar quite well. The body looks OK but I will check roots next spring.

The cactus on the 1st photo seems mixed some other ariocarpus species but I am not sure because my friend gave me the seed.

Re: Hana's cacti
The attached photo is one of rooted Aztekium hintoniies. 3 off-sets on a grafted cactus were removed and set for rooting 4 years ago. Size of off-sets were around 3 cm in diameter.
Aztekium hintonii grows very slowly. Current size of cactus on the photo is around 4 cm in diameter. I can see a new rib to start forming. Some roots passed through the bottom of the pot which means the rooting worked successfully.

Have you ever checked the roots from time to time? How long after it started rooting?Hanazono wrote: ↑Fri May 10, 2024 1:22 am The attached photo is one of rooted Aztekium hintoniies. 3 off-sets on a grafted cactus were removed and set for rooting 4 years ago. Re: Hana's cacti
I would like to know that too Have all three offsets rooted?
Have you tried rooting other Aztekium species Frank? I never heard of anyone successfully rooting A. ritteri (I know many people who tried) or A. valdezii (I don't know if anyone tried it yet).
Re: Hana's cacti
G'morning Fatich and Nino_G,
I tried to root A. ritteri several times but I have never gotten any successful results. Since rooted off-sets of both ritteri and valdezii on market in a country, I believe these species are possible to root. I need more study but I will try it again in September.
Frank
Checking roots during rooting process is not a good practice and so I have never checked roots. I set an off-set for the rooting in spring and the off-set is rooted by autumn which means an off-set of A. hintonii should be rooted within 6 months. I just push the off-set from side and confirm the resistance.Have you ever checked the roots from time to time? How long after it started rooting?
All three off-sets have rooted. I also rooted 4 degrafted hintoniies. They are larger than the cactus on photo. Two of them were in flower in this year.I would like to know that too Have all three offsets rooted?
