Seeds from abroad

Post by Cactusupdate »

Hi everyone, I bought seeds from cactus-miroshnichenko (anyone buy from him before?) and thought I'd keep track of their growth/survival in a post. I'll post photos of everyone once they're out of their baggies.

Very curious as to whether or not these cultivars will develop their desired traits.

Sown 11/6/2018

Ariocarpus fissuratus cv. Godzilla 6/10 (all though one isn't doing much)
Ariocarpus bravoanus hintonii X fissuratus 10/10 (took the longest to pop)
Ariocarpus fissuratus x kotschoubeyanus 9/10
Ariocarpus retusus furfuraceus "saltillo" 9/11

Astrophytum asterias cv super kabuto 16/16 (one variegated)
Astrophytum asterias cv ooibo 10/12
Astrophytum asterias cv Hanazono 11/11
Astrophytum asterias cv superkabuto 'gold' 'miracle' 9/10 (two just popped two days ago)

Nice looking seedlings you’ve got going there! =D> Went and checked out their website after seeing this, looks like they’ve got some good stuff. Hard for me to differentiate what was seeds and seedlings is there a way to convert the website to all English? I would definitely like to pick up some stuff from them.

On a top right just above seed list “RU/EN”
If it does not work 15 шт=15pcs -seeds
1,5 см=1.5cm- plant size
Hope it helps

Pulled the arios out to make room for incoming seeds (I might have a problem). They are under the growlight but filtered by a paper towel.

Pulled out some more seedlings from baggies and grafted a godzilla. The two smaller seedlings from the godzilla that weren't doing much have a grown quite a bit since moving out the baggie, interesting.

Nothing exciting to update about the other seeds. On of the Godzilla seedlings may not have made it otherwise everyone looks happy.

I sowed my second order on 12/27. Here they are (some have over 100% germination because he sent more than I ordered)

Some of them look like they had a bit of fungus so I oncovered and sprayed with a copper fungicide. I also put a paper towel over them to soften the light.

And an update on the godzilla graft, I think it's going to make even though it looks a little sad.

Any updates? Just curious, because I'm thinking about ordering from this seller. I didn't realize it was so easy to get seeds shipped into the US from overseas...

Thank guys! I'll update when I get home everyone is doing well (except the godzilla graft I guess it gave up).

Brian, I got my peresk from my dad 8) He gave me a piece a couple of years ago to try grafting on but I was too chicken, now it's about 4 feet tall and I just chop off arms when I need some.

Update time! Big huge post, sorry in advance. Overall I'm very happy with progress. You'll see these pics have mosquito bits in there, I'm still fighting with fungus gnats but numbers are WAY down.

Notable casualties: 2 godzilla (1 bad graft), 1 miracle gold, and a slight watering mishap has mixed a bunch of my second batch ](*,)

I definitely uncovered these too soon, and a tidal wave of sloppy watering scattered them quite a bit. I've transplanted some but I don't think it was a good idea. They look a little thirsty but they actually looked worse a week ago, I think most will make it.

Hi Update. Thanks for your posts and photos. I will be starting some seeds from the same provider soon. In the process of getting all things together. May I ask what media you are growing these seeds in? Thank you. Tom
