Hi all,
I recently lost this cactus to winter. and was wondering if anyone could help me ID this guy. He was in a 2x2 inch pot. This, unfortunately, is the only picture I had of it and it was pretty young at that so the adult form might have looked different. Any suggestions are appreciated. Thank you for your time!

Re: Ferocactus sp?
I don't think it's a Ferocactus, their ribs tend to be more tuberculate (ie, bumpy) when they're young. Maybe a Melocactus.

I think you are correct with Melocactus. Perhaps M. ernestii?greenknight wrote:I don't think it's a Ferocactus, their ribs tend to be more tuberculate (ie, bumpy) when they're young. Maybe a Melocactus.

Was my first thought too. Maybe it is a Melocactus. Hard to tell from one picture from above.Pilif wrote:I'm thinking Trichocereus

True, from that picture it could be a Trichocereus, too. Cold would be more likely to kill a Melocactus, though.
