Three cacti for ID

Post by Zhanna »

I picked up these three cacti this summer and would like some help with identification. Thanks!

1. I'm pretty sure this is Mammillaria schiedeana.

2. No idea.

3. Ferocactus, but which species? Too young to tell?

#1 and #2 are about 2 inches in diameter and #3 is about 4 inches in diameter, if that helps.

Thank you!

The first looks like Mammillaria bocasana; the second is probably Notocactus (Parodia) buiningii; the third is almost certainly a Ferocactus but I'm not sure which species.
Cactus enthusiast on and off since boyhood. I have a modest collection of cacti & succulents.

First one is mamm schiedeana, should have a thick root when repotting. Agree with 2nd and 3rd.

It's very hard to tell them apart when they're that young.

I wouldn't have guessed Notocactus/Parodia for #2 but you're spot on! Just never saw one like that before. Thanks!

Ah, yes, it did. I remember that the taproot looked somewhat like a big tooth/molar (as viewed on dental xrays) when I repotted.
