Great Seedlings Both of you guys! Love those Ortegos.
Sorry Promethean Spark, Didn't get your 'Lizard Skin' seeds... I did get the Ortego seeds from you though.. and like I said, I lost all but one Which is Grafted. I thought I had a few seeds left but I just saved an empty bag for some reason.
Awesome crest there Too! Congrats on that! I have a regular one grafted that I got last fall. Started showing growth about a week ago. Spring is here!
And yeah... What the heck is that brown sludge?

That was my first time sowing them, and same results almost 100% germination. Think i am missing 5, maybe they movedpromethean_spark wrote:My ortegos might not be big, but they make up for it in quantity... I got 10 seed and still have 10 plants.
What size/age did they start to flower?
And great looking crest!
Maybe in 2 weeks, oh wait that is 2 years in cactus time, lol.Tony wrote:I have been hoping to find a mate for my plant someday BTW.

Yes, Ortegocacti are very goodlooking plants and very easy from seed and also in keeping alive. There are two forms, one with black and one with white spines making a nice blend. When I look at Promethean Sparks pics I almost regrets that I have given so many Ortego´s away.

Re: The Nicest... or My Favorite....
Really? White spined? Many of the pics I see have both Black and white spines on the same plant... or black spines that have white on them. Have you got a picture? I'm guessing it would be Ortegocactus macdougallii v. albaspina?
I understand your regret! I'm regretting losing all my seedlings. Hoping my graft really takes off this spring!

Very fun to see the pictures of growth over 6 years! A good illustration of why seed raising requires patience!
All Cacti are succulents, but not all succulents are Cacti
