I've had a go at identifying these two from the cactus CactiGuide pictures and would be grateful for confirmation or correction from an expert.
The first I believe is C. cinerea. It's about 5 cm in diameter and hasn't flowered yet.
My best shot at the second is C. hypogaea. I only bought it about a month ago and it's flowered already! It's about 4 cm in diameter and looks a bit shriveled in the picture. I was a bit worried and checked the roots. All was fine and I think the weekly watering was just running straight through without wetting the peat based soil it came with. The temperature has been high, 35 C, and the sun fierce, so it's not too surprising that it started to shrivel. I've since managed to get some water into the root ball and it's already swelling back to a reasonable appearance.

Re: Coupla copiapoas ?
Another of several names to throw in - C. dealbata?
Once bitten by the cactus collecting/growing bug, there is no known cure!
There's no 12 step programme for Cactaholics...so I shall just have to get some more!!

This is C. dealbata, and it gets fewer spines as it gets older.hoteidoc wrote:Another of several names to throw in - C. dealbata?

Thanks, Iann. I've got both - but small - & wasn't seeing the difference! Similar, but yes, different!

Re: Coupla copiapoas ?
I'd be more inclined towards C. calderana for the first plant, owing to the spines and the body shape. The second one looks like a slightly discoloured C. humilis to me. Nice plants! ![Smile :)](./images/smilies/icon_smile.gif)

Re: Coupla copiapoas ?
First one could be C. montana.
I agree the second is C. hypogaea.

Thanks to you all for your help on these two. I'll go with C. calderana for the first one and C. hypogaea for the second one, for now, and see how the plants develop as they get older.
