Got started sorting out the front. All the plants are moved in and i still have space for propagation!
I really like the way this build has turned out.
What a GORGEOUS addition for you! Excellent, meticulous, well thought-out job. You're fortunate to live in CA, where you can build most all winter. That would not have gone up so quickly here in the Northeast...
Catch a falling star--but don't try it with a cactus!
Is 50% standard? considered heavy shade? light shade? I don't know anything about shadecloth. I bought some that was not rated at Ace hardware and my plants seem to like it. It's fairly heavy shade, but then this is Phoenix.
Ya, I'd think 50% is standard for C&S nurseries. IMO, certainly the max, even in AZ. We did go with 60% on the first shadehouse, while it's ok when fully exposed to the sun all day, however if there is any shade from a tree or whatever, it gets pretty dark. I'm going to change it to 50% next year. 10% may not sound like much, but it is.
At home we use 30% over the GH and 40% for the shadehouse.
The higher the percentage number, the darker the cloth.
Darryl,
interesting. Seems like what you are using jibes with what was suggested in one of my classes at DBGs. They recommended not to use anything over 60% and not to use any below 30% Since I am a beginner I like that their advice was pretty sound.
IT looks like a nice project you finished.
Here's to you, all you insidious creatures of green..er I mean cacti.
