Looking for Maihuenia poeppigii

Post by paulzie32 »

Hey Everyone,
I don't suppose anyone has this neat looking little plant? I'd love to find some seeds, or even a few pieces to grow.
If anyone does, I'd love to hear from you.
TIA

Difficult from seed. It isn't clear whether it needs cold stratification but that's one method that seems to help germination. Very easy from cuttings.

Yes, that's it, but in the wrong genus. As I understand it, Maihuenia and Maihueniopsis are not closely related at all.

Not too bad of a price for plants of the size they describe.

It is actually remarkably easy from seed. Fresh seed germinate really well withing days, older ones tend to sprout sporadically withing years.

Seedlings culture is very different from common cacti culture. They do not stand closed air, and love open sun from 2-weeks old or even younger. Take lots of watering in very well drained soil with no organic matter whatsoever. Frost hardy from the day they have germinated. Not a greenhouse plant

succseed.com has seeds, or used to

Thanks... I checked Succseed and they don't seem to have any seeds for M. poeppigii left. They have other types but not this one.
Seeds will take 6 - 7 years to bloom too, from what I've read. I was really hoping for a small start from someone or somewhere.

Hi Peter... Sorry, I did miss that link. Thanks. $10 was a bit more than I was hoping to pay. But That, so far, seems to be the only place selling live plants.
Thanks
