Severe Blow Today
Severe Blow Today
Just when things were looking up with the weather today I was hit with a severe thunderstorm that poured hail up to 1 inch size for a full 15 minutes. Had a few crushing blows to my plants.
this little seedling was crushed, literally
anacampseros rufescens had a tire blow out, and also several leaves 'volunteered' for propagation
My O. Ellisiana has had one thing after another go wrong over the last couple years and this year just when it looked on the path to recovery
The biggest blow of all, all 3 buds obliterated on my A. Myriostigma and these were its first flower buds
A carpet of hail was left when it was finally done
Besides these there is a lot of spine damage on plants. The holiday cacti had lots of split pads. A recently purchased peanut cactus lost a few stems. I also imagine a lot of unseen damage to the bodies of plants will appear in the coming days.

Man, thats a bummer Andy. Seems you fall into the catagory with me... If not for bad luck you'd have no luck at all
Been getting rains here but no hail as of yet.
At least it wasn't a total lose. Keep that chin up

I know the Opuntia will live on but this is its 3rd growing season and it has 4 less pads then when I got it I really have to ask myself what the point is with having that one, its cursedTony wrote:Major bummer about the seedling!
The astro will be replacing those buds soon I bet.
And the opuntia, well I think it would survive a mac truck getting dropped on it.

Yikes! Hail is a frightful thing. Earlier this spring they had devastating hail not more than 20 miles from us. It broke windows out of cars - and obviously wreaked equivelent havoc on every thing else it hit. The same storm passed right over us with heavy rain, but the hail was not ready apparently.
All Cacti are succulents, but not all succulents are Cacti
