Hello!

Post by Carolyn Plumley »

My name is Plum. We are moving back into a house we have rented out for 30 years. Lo and behold there are two cactus there. One is a column kind and one is another kind, (haven't looked it up yet. Bboth have lots of stickers on them. I think they are beautiful, but can't keep them because of my dog and small grandchildren. How do I remove them? Anyone want them? I love the cacti gardens at the Huntington Library and Gardens in San Marino. I'm in Glendale - Pasadena are of So. Cal.

The photo shows after I cut as much as I could off from my side of chain link fence. The tall skinny cacti are on the left side of photo. I'll try to get better pix today.

Hi Plum, Welcome!

I might be interested in them, providing i can see a pic and don't already have a bunch ;) Can help remove them as well.

Other options are to donate them to the Huntington or the local Cactus & Succulent club(s). There are several in the LA area.

Thanks for the welcomes and advice. I got some photos today and will try to post them tomorrow. Where would I find the photo upload tutorial?

No.1 Myrtillocactus geometrizans?
No. 2 Maybe an Echinopsis Spachina

I agree with the first being Myrtillocactuts.

But not spachiana on the second. I think Echinopsis peruviana might be a better choice, but it is hard to tell for sure.

Daiv, E. Peruviana has less ribs and longer spines. As you can see in Carolyn's photo, all the spines are golden, E. Peruviana's spines are all gray while the new growth spines are golden, so the spines are (from bottom to top) are gray to gold. However, Carolyn's plant may not be an E. Spachiana.
