Confirm ID Parodia werneri??

Post by sarit »

Can you guys please confirm or correct me. Is this a Parodia werneri. Sorry I don't have more pics or measurements. Photo was from 12 years ago. I remember it the plant being about 4" in diameter. I hope to be able to find another one (or seeds).

As far as I know...no other has flowers like this one.....and it is known for several synonimes....as Notocactus uebelmannianus...I have it under this name.

There is a yellow flowered form of it as well v. flaviflorus, along with a couple of other related species, N. arachnites and N. crassigibbus, now often reduced to synonymy under P. werneri = N. ueblemannianus. However as nurserymen concentrated on propagating the purple flowered one which sold best they did not bother with the others, therefore the others are hard to find now. They caused quite stir when first discovered, Notocactus whose bodies looked like Gymnocalyciums.

The only reason for the name change on moving N. uebelmannianus to Parodia was there was already a Parodia uebelmanniana that took precedence so they used Uebelmann's first name, Werner. If you move it back out of Parodia again though it reverts to N. uebelmannianus and not "Notocactus werneri"
