Re: Is this expected?

Interesting, Greenknight. Yes. I forgot. There we have better images. The image is too small to make any accurate ID possible. From what little I could see, (the density of the spines, and the stem color) would typically exclude Notocactus magnificus , which most experts agree is no more than a form...

Re: Most delightful fragrance in cacti?

Selenicereus grandiflorus has the most powerful and adorable scent IMHO. The same as good old echinopsis in sensu stricto has but much more stronger. Interesting that flower opens in late evening but fragrance appears only in darkness, 2 hours later. Then: Thank you, anttisepp, for digging up this ...

Re: Stesonia coryne: this is no sunburn -- ALARM! HELP please!

It appears that you took the soil out of the Stetsonia's old pot and surrounded it with new mix when you repotted. If that's what you did, unpot the plant, clean the old soil out of the roots as thoroughly as possible, let them dry out, then repot in the new mix. IMO years of old soil (and too much...

my mum's succulent -- peperomia?

Hi everybody, my mum has been given a succulent plant with folded leaves & a strong stalk. Now that it will flower she is wondering what it might be. I was thinking about Peperomia, but I have no clue to what. Oh, about size: That's a short-leaved Rosemary in the foreground of the first picture....

Re: Co-potting

Years ago, I created such creative miniature landscapes, too, and I loved them. I always took care that each plant had enough space. In that time I visited a guy a couple of times -- he had cati & ferns crammed in the same pot, but they thrieved. I think that the ferns came unplanted & uninv...

Yep, I agree with zpeckler.

Could you give us a sharp close-up of the other one, eg from the upper part, where it gets wider? How tall / thick is it?

Re: Most delightful fragrance in cacti?

This is a pretty old thread, but I'll add this in. A friend of mine was a perfumer at a local fragrance company. (...) Hello Jerry, thanks for unearthing that thread & adding such a nice story. My humble addition: Of course the Selenicereus are famous for their fragrance. When I return home lat...

Re: Crassula growing upon Mammillaria

:o Good eye, or great glasses! Those are tiny. Hi Minnesota, my eyes are not what they used to be. But such "wrong" structures usually catch my eye. Then I get out the glasses -- and wonder... Earlier this year I found two interesting things after taking photos. (Like the miniature ...

Yep, after being hungry for too long they sometimes "explode", see it here also, especially in my "big pots for cacti"-experiment. Cool!
Say "hi!" to Colin, good fun to you. Would you post some pictures when the show is on?

Re: Loph. williamsi- questions

Just remembered that pumice might be hard to get at your place. I also use this here called "Grus", which is a rough mixture of small pebbles. I buy this one: https://www.graf-baustoffe.de/shop_item_detail.php?shopItemId=12933 Here you find something about the content, it's volcanic: https...
